In a dedicated room, the screen has no reason to disappear. Better to give it the best conditions: a surface permanently tensioned over a rigid frame stays perfectly flat, without a single wrinkle — something no rolling mechanism quite matches.
The second advantage is less known: the black velvet borders absorb light spilling beyond the image. The result shows immediately in dark scenes, where contrast appears strengthened. Finally, with no motor or electronics, a fixed frame has nothing that can fail.
One constraint remains to anticipate: the screen occupies the wall permanently. That requires space — at least 25 to 30 cm of clearance on each side, more if the front speakers stand on the floor — and accepting that the room is visually dedicated to cinema. Our frames disassemble into two sections, which lets them pass through a standard doorway even at large diagonals.
